Ceramic & Porcelain

This is an example of a very basic ceramic tile. This is a kitchen floor, the photograph was taken right after grouting which is why you will notice a slight film on the tile. Note the edge of the floor has a slight downward taper, this is a very nice feature when tile is going to meet up with carpet. It not only looks great, because it frames the floor, but has a functional purpose which is to keep you from stubbing your toe or tripping when you walk from the carpeted area to the tiled area.

Here is an example of porcelain tile. This particular tile is a highly polished porcelain that has no glazing on it. The advantage of using this type of tile in a place such as a kitchen counter is that it is un-scratchable, you literally can take a knife and try to scratch the surface and it will not make a mark. This is especially handy when you drag a cast iron pan across your counter to the sink! Try that on a granite slab! Additionally the tile is a solid color throughout so if you happen to chip the edge, which can happen, the chip is not noticeable to the eye because there is no color change throughout the body of the tile. Although I love natural stone, I happen to really think this is an outstanding product and highly recommend it for floors and kitchens!
